Eye Exams to Support Your Eye Health
Many eye conditions can lurk beneath the surface and may not become noticeable until symptoms become bothersome or hard to ignore. Routine eye exams can help detect those conditions early.
We pride ourselves on providing quality, personalized care to each of our patients. With a consistent exam schedule, our team can provide the care that each member of your family may need, whether that’s eye disease care or dry eye treatment.
We will work closely with you to develop an organized exam schedule based on your health, lifestyle, and availability.

Request AppointmentEye Exam Frequency
The recommended frequency of eye exams depends on your current eye health and risk of developing any eye conditions in the future.
For low-risk patients with little to no prescription, no family history of eye disease, and who don’t wear contact lenses, we recommend an eye exam every 2 to 3 years. We recommend yearly exams for kids, high-risk patients, individuals who are near-sighted, those with a family history of eye disease, and contact lens wearers. Don’t forget that kids and seniors have annual coverage for eye exams in Alberta!
Common Eye Conditions
Eye exams can detect a variety of conditions, many of which have no early symptoms and cannot be diagnosed without an exam. This includes eye condition such as cataracts, glaucoma, retinal tears and dry eye, among others.
Diabetic eye disease can often be detected during an eye exam, sometimes even before the patient is aware they have diabetes. This early diagnosis is crucial because it enables timely intervention and treatment, helping to prevent further damage to the eyes and protect long-term vision. Regular exams are essential for identifying these conditions in their earliest stages.
Over time, undiagnosed eye disease can lead to irreversible damage and permanent vision loss. This makes regular eye exams essential for catching issues early, allowing for timely detection and proper treatment to help preserve your sight.
What to Expect During Your Eye Exam
Before your eye exam, we will start by taking a detailed vision and medical history—especially if it’s your first visit with us. With this information, we can get a general and systemic understanding of your eye health and any specific eye conditions that you may be concerned about.
Many health conditions and medications can impact your eye health, even if they seem unrelated. For example, the heart medication Amiodarone can deposit in the cornea, and Ankylosing Spondylitis, a back condition, can cause painful eye inflammation that requires treatment by your optometrist. This is why providing an accurate account of your health is vital during your exam.
We then conduct a series of screening tests to provide your optometrist with basic information about your vision. Some tests, like Optos Retinal Imaging, aren’t covered by Alberta Health Services, but they are highly valuable and recommended by our doctors.
After the doctor has completed your comprehensive eye examination, he/she will discuss and provide personalized guidance based on your eye health and vision.
We Will Take Care of Your Family’s Eyes
